English is important

English is very important nowadays. If someone can understand and speak English very well, he or she may find a good job, or get a promotion in his or her career. It seems as if English had become the best way of assessing talents.

However, if you're trying to buy some goods in Quebec City and you don't know a word of French, your English will be rather useless to you unless you're in the tourist part, in which case the price of goods is also more expensive.

The Chinese government acknowledges that it needs communication with other people around the world but not all of them understand English. On one hand, the ministry of education assumes that everyone should surely know English and so it forces the whole Chinese population to learn it, on the other hand China Radio International is acknowledging that other languages are still needed.

Just as the English-speaking world is changing and affecting the non-English speaking world, we should expect more evolutions in the English language.

If English were to evolve to a phonetic alphabet it may simplify procedures. But IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) itself would alter the English written world similar to and probably more drastically than the changes in Chinese script over the years. IPA does make sense, but it needs to have strategy lest it create a wake, which simply disappears altogether. So much of China's great literary and cultural achievements are available to so few because of large moves in the language base. History should teach us something.

As a student in a senior middle school, I think the person who studies all the subjects well is an excellent one. Because histories make men wise, poets witty, the mathematics subtitle, logic and rhetoric able to contend. So all the knowledge can make my life colourful.

About country contribution, we should hold many other technologies, for example, computer operations, communication with somebody, marketing and so on. Many years later, the world will develop faster. Only understanding English well is not enough, so we should have overall knowledge to devote ourselves to making our country brighter.

In a word, learning English is very important, but it is not the only way to get a success. So it is not necessary to spend a lot of time on it. Trying my best to do something good for contribution is OK.
