乱哄哄一拥而上的中国瑜伽馆和培训机构以及它们培训出来的瑜伽教练,由于造成了大量瑜伽练习者受伤而广受诟病,于是就有一些人认为月亮还是外国的圆,国外的瑜伽培训是很规范的。国内很多瑜伽馆和瑜伽培训推广机构和美国瑜伽联盟有合作关系,打着美国瑜伽联盟的招牌做瑜伽教练培训。

外国圆月亮的首选就是――美国瑜伽联盟(YogaAlliance)。不少人,包括许多瑜伽业者讲美国的瑜伽联盟的课程如何规范和科学合理,实情真的如此吗?

瑜伽联盟和邪教的关系

瑜伽已成为一种广受欢迎的健身形式,近几年已形成极为火爆的热潮。

很多西方人着迷于这种练习并期望瑜伽将能够帮助他们减肥并防止反弹,一些人也认为瑜伽能导致内心的平静和安宁。

大量的瑜伽馆开业了,从大都市到大一点的城镇,瑜伽馆几乎随处可见。

但是一个怀揣希望的学生如何才能找到名气好的瑜伽馆和优秀的教练呢?

大多数似乎都是依靠朋友的介绍推荐,但是也有一些注册老师和学校的机构组织。

这样的机构被称为“瑜伽联盟”(YogaAlliance),它的地址是美国的宾夕法尼亚州,reading城。仅仅只是1999年成立的一个组织。

但是,一些瑜伽联盟的董事会成员背景相当令人担忧,近一半的董事会成员以前和现在曾经卷入到邪教团体中,一些在“瑜伽协会”登记注册的学校也和邪教有关联。

例如,该联盟的名单中有位于新墨西哥州Espanola市的3HO ashram,位于弗吉尼亚州里士满市的整体瑜伽中心(IntegralYoga Center)以及位于加利福尼亚州nevada(内华达城)的阿南达瑜伽(AnandaYoga).

所有的这三个团体并没有什么值得称道的来历,它们也常常被称作“邪教”。

Kartar SinghKhalsa,教师外联部的联席主管,是(现代昆达里尼瑜伽创始人,3HO的创始人)的信徒。

Yoga Alliance has "cult" connections

Yoga has become a popular form of exercise and something of asensational craze in recent years.

Many Westerners are enthralled with the practice and hope thatyoga will help them to shed pounds and firm up. Some say it mayalso lead to a sense of inner calm and tranquility.

Numerous yoga studios have opened up almost everywhere, frommajor metropolitan areas to large towns.

But how can a hopeful student find a reputable studio with a goodteacher?

Most seem to rely on word-of-mouth endorsements from friends,but there are some organizations that register schools andteachers.

One such body is called the "Yoga Alliance" (YA), its mailingaddress is in Reading, Pennsylvania. YA was officially establishedjust a few years ago in 1999.

But the background history of some YA board members is ratherdisturbing. It seems nearly half at one time or another have beeninvolved with groups called "cults." And some of the schoolsregistered at YA are associated with "cults."

For example, the alliance includes on its list of schools the 3HOashram in Espanola, New Mexico, the Integral Yoga Center ofRichmond, Virginia and Ananda Yoga of Nevada City,California.

All three of these groups have less than laudable histories andthey have also often been called "cults."

A close look at the resumes of YA board members reveals someinteresting connections.

Kartar Singh Khalsa, Co-head of Teachers Outreach, is a devoteeof Yogi Bhajan the founder of 3HO.

The group Ananda Marga first initiated Steven Landau, Chairman ofthe YA Newsletter Committee.

Carol A. Stefanelli, head of the group’s Networking Committee,once studied with Swami Muktananda the founder of Siddha.

Mary Lynn Tucker, Co-chair of the Outreach Committee, studiedyoga with Swami Satchidananda and lives near the ashram the gurucreated named "Yogaville."

Rich McCord, Chairman of YA’s pivotal Standards Committee,actually teaches at the Ananda Church of Self-Realization, whichhas been labeled a "cult" in court.

Ananda’s founder J. Donald Walters was found guilty of sexualmisconduct and plaintiffs were awarded a staggering multi-milliondollar judgment.

Interestingly, the last "face-to-face" meeting of the YA boardwas actually held at the so-called "Ananda Village," inCalifornia.

Isn’t this a bit like the "foxes guarding the hen house"?

Anyone considering yoga classes with teachers and/or schoolsregistered by the Yoga Alliance might want to exercise a bit ofcaution, before beginning any of their exercises.
