1:Merry Christmas

Christmas is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the western countries. It falls on the twenty- fifth of December and has the same importance as Chinese New Year to people with English backgrounds. The celebration is for the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the son of God in Christianity. Now days Christmas is no longer only celebrated by the Christians, but by most people from all over the world.

On the twenty- fourth of December everyone gets excited for it’s the day before Christmas which is called Christmas Eve. The children are usually sent to bed early and are warned that “Santa Claus will only e and give you a present if you be good.” The younger kids actually believe that Santa will e down the chimney on the sleigh that’s pulled by his reindeers. Food like short bread and beer are prepared for Santa when he es, however most times parents just eat them. Some children put socks and sacks up for the holding of the presents ***that their parents put in***.

Rise and shine on Christmas morning! The children are always the first ones to wake up, some even do at four. Present wrappers everywhere! They look into their presents with a big *** ile on their face and oh dear….I hope no one’s disappointed. I feel sorry for anyone that got pink underwear. Children play while dinner is prepared by the *** s. The Christmas dinner are usually eaten together by relatives. The tradition of Christmas pudding and roosters are usually eaten with deserts afterwards. The rest of the day is usually games and fun before the good days all e to an end.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

    2:Traveling is Boring

Traveling isusually boring. There are always too many people in the places of interest inChina and it is crowed everywhere, when it es to the golden weeks, thissituation could be worse. Just imagine that you are waiting in line, hungry andthirsty. All you want is a ticket that can get through the door to see thebeautiful view. You may plain: “why am I ing to the terrible place? Why Ido this to myself?” If you are unlucky, you may encounter a bad guide whoforces you to shop here and there. How horrible it is! What’s worse, you mayspend more money than usually does.

Why don’t youjust stay at home and enjoy the cozy life? You don’t need to go outside to seethe view, you can just turn on the TV or puter, the amazing view willrepresent in front of you. You not only save a large sum of money, but alsoyour precious time. And you can do other things too, such as watching a classicmovie, chatting with friends on the phone or surfing the Internet. This couldbe so much fun! Therefore, I prefer to stay at home instead of going outside.

    3:My Favorite Food

Food is human’ *** asic need, yet it differs from culture to culture. Color, aroma and taste havebeen regarded as the basics of Chinese culinary art. In the long history ofChinese course development, there are many differences between the Southern andNorthern tastes. Generally speaking, the southern courses emphasize freshnessand tenderness; while the northern courses are oilier. As a typically southerner,I prefer freshness and pure flavor. So my favorite food is steaming fish.

Steaming fish isa classical Guang Dong dish. It’s famous for light, soft and slippery material must be fresh, and the cook must control the heat to make sure thefish remain tender and pure. Put the fresh fish in the pot to steam for 8minutes with mild heat. Before the dish is finished, add a spoon of oil andsome chopped green onion and a spoon of soy sauce, and then the steaming fishis done. My mother is very good at cooking this course. I really love the wayshe cook the fish, not only maintain the original flavors of the fish, but alsoprovide with enough protein.

A Perfect Heart

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming***宣告,宣告*** that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gathered, and they all admired his heart for it was perfect. There was not a flaw in it.

Suddenly, an old man appeared and said, "Why, your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine!"

The crowd and the young man looked at the old man's heart. It was full of scars. It had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right, and there were several jagged***锯齿状的*** edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges***沟*** where whole pieces were missing.

The young man laughed. "paring your heart with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars."

"Yes," said the old man, "Yours looks perfect but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love. I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give me a piece of their heart that fits into the empty place in my heart.

"But because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared.

"Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his or her heart to me. These are the empty gouges - giving love is taking a chance.

"Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love I have for those people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I've been waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

The young man walked up to the old man, reached into his perfect heart, and ripped a piece out. He offered it to the old man.

The old man placed it in his heart, then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges.

The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old man's heart flowed into his.

They embraced and walked away side by side.

How sad it must be to go through life with a whole untouched heart!

Happiness is a journey

We always convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. we will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.

We always tell ourselves that our life will be plete when our spouse gets his or her act together. when we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nice vocation when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.

One of my favorite quotes***引用,格言*** es from Alfred Souza. He said."for a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, someting to be gotten through firest, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid.

Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have.

And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school; until you get married, until you get divorced; until you have kids; until you retire; until you get a new car or home; until spring; until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy….

Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching.

Fifty-percent Expectation

I believe in the "50-percent theory". Half the time things are better than normal; the other half, they are worse. I believe life is a pendulum***钟摆*** swing. It takes time and experience to understand what normal is, and that gives me the perspective to deal with the surprises of the future.

Let's benchmark the parameters: Yes, I will die. I've dealt with the deaths of both parents, a best friend, a beloved boss and cherished pets. Some of these deaths have been violent, before my eyes, or slow and agonizing***苦恼的*** . Bad stuff, and it belongs at the bottom of the scale.

Then there are those high points: romance and marriage to the right person; having a child and doing those Dad things like coaching my son's baseball team, paddling around the creek in the boat while he's swimming with the dogs, discovering his passion so deep it manifests even in his kindness to snails, his imagination so vivid he builds a spaceship from a scattered pile of Legos.

But there is a vast meadow of life in the middle, where the bad and thegood flip-flop acrobatically. This is what convinces me to believe in the 50-percent theory.

One spring I planted corn too early in a bottomland so flood-prone thatneighbors laughed. I felt chagrined at the wasted effort. Summer turned brutal-- the worst heat wave and drought in my lifetime. The air-conditioner died, the well went dry, the marriage ended, the job lost, the money gone. I wasliving lyrics from a country tune -- music I loathed. Only a surging Kansas City Royals team, bound for their first World Series, buoyed***支撑,鼓励*** my spirits.

Looking back on that horrible summer, I soon understood that all succeeding good things merely offset the bad. Worse than normal wouldn't last long. I am owed and savor the halcyon***宁静的*** times. They reinvigorate me for the next nasty surprise and offer assurance that I can thrive. The 50 percent theory even helps me see hope beyond my Royals' recent slump, a field of struggling rookies sown so that some year soon we can reap an October harvest.

Oh, yeah, the corn crop? For that one blistering***猛烈的,极热的*** summer, the ground moisture was just right, planting early allowed pollination before heat, withered the tops, and the lack of rain spared the standing corn from floods. That winter my crib overflowed with corn -- fat, healthy three-to-a-stalk ears filled with kernels from heel to tip -- while my neighbors' fields yielded only brown, empty husks.

Although plantings past may have fallen below the 50-percent expectation, and they probably will again in the future, I am still sustained by the crop that flourishes during the drought.

Acres of Diamonds

There was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. He was happy because he was content. He was content because he was happy.

One day a wise man came to him and told him about the glory of diamonds and the power that goes along them.

The wise man says, “If you had a diamond the size of your thumb, you could have your own city. If you had a diamond the size of your fist you could probably own your own country.” And then he went away.

That night the farmer couldn't sleep. He was unhappy and he was discontent. He was unhappy because he was discontent, and he was discontent because he was unhappy.

The next morning he made arrangements to sell off his farm, took care of his family and went in search of diamonds. He looked all over Africa and couldn't find any. He looked all through Europe and couldn’t find any. When he got to Spain, he was emotionally, physically and financially broke. He got so disheartened that he threw himself into the Barcelona River and committed suicide.

Back home, the person who had bought his farm was watering the camels at a stream that ran through the farm. Across the stream, the rays of the morning sun hit a stone and made it sparkle like a rainbow.

He thought it would look good on the mantelpiece. He picked up the stone and put it in the living room. That afternoon the wise man came and saw the stone sparkling. He asked, "Is Hafiz back?"

The new owner said, "No, why do you ask?" The wise man said, "Because that is a diamond. I recognize one when I see one." The man said, "No, that's just a stone I picked up from the stream. Come, I'll show you. There are many more.' They went and picked some samples and sent them for analysis. Sure enough, the stones were diamonds. They found that the farm was indeed covered with acres and acres of diamonds.

    你多大年纪how old are you

if we did not know our age, some of us would appear to be very young, and some of us would seem very old.

sometimes, people use age as a convenient excuse. “i am too old to start something new,” or, “i couldn’t learn that at my age.” other people, though, go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in later years.

take, for example, colonel harland sanders who started franchising his chicken outlets when he was 65 years old, up to the age of 90 years old he traveled 250000 miles a year visiting kfc franchises. he didn’t let age stand in his way!

feeling lead to attitudes, attitudes become beliefs, and beliefs become the basis for actions.

    感觉导致态度,态度变成信仰,信仰变成行动的根本。

    it is not important how old you are;

    多大年纪并不重要

it is how you feel, how you think,

and what you do that is important.

to quote satchel paige, “how old would you be if you didn’t know how old you was?”

an individual human life should belike a river生命应该像条河

whether sixty or sixteen, there is the desire of wonders, the endless pure desire of what’s next and the joy of the game of living in every human being’s heart.

in the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: it receives messages of beauty, hope, pleasure, courage and power from men, and all these things keep you young.

an individual human life should be like a river —small at first, narrowly contained within its banks and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. gradually, the river grows wider and the banks fall back, the water flows more quietly. in the end, without any visible break, they come together in the sea and painlessly lose their individual being.

youth means courage over shyness and the adventurous spirit of deserting the love of ease. this often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty. nobody grows old merely by a number of years. we grow old by deserting our ideals. years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up passion wrinkles the soul. worry, fear and self-distrust bow the heart and turn the spirit back into dust.
